Empty Arm Syndrome

After spending five days with Daniel, I miss holding him in my arms and seeing his adorable little expressions when someone else was holding him. I had a wonderful, tiring, five days of helping at the Marquiss home as Kat and Jason began to feel a little more confident about taking care of baby Daniel. Jason is a fantastic, hands-on dad. Since he was going to be home this week, I went back to work at school. I thought of them all day long...

Daniel seems extra tiny in Grandpop's arms!

Daniel's Here!!!

What a surprise ending to a monumental day! Jason took Kat to the hospital Saturday evening to find out why she was feeling so sick. The doctor checked her over and declared that she had HELLP's Syndrom - or preclampsia. That meant an emergency c-section to end the pregnancy as quickly as possible and get Kat's blood platelet count stabilized. God is so good. Kat's condition was discovered in time for her to have a full recovery.

So, Daniel is here. He arrived at 2:05 a.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009. He weighed in at 7 pounds 1 ounce and was 19 1/2 inches long. He has curly red hair and is as cute as a button!!!

We arrived at about 2:20 a.m. and this afternoon we were able to hold him.

Milestones

We had the pleasure of attending our son-in-law Jason's graduation from Pennsylvania State University today. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Survey Engineering. He started his new job with Cowan Associates in Bethlehem last week and in just a short time he will be a father. We think he's handling all these milestones with grace and confidence.

Some photos from this morning...

The Nursery is Ready!

Kat and Jason sent pictures of the nursery. Now that the basement is finished, the office is moved and the nursery is set up, Kat is ready for Daniel's arrival. Next we will have to get her set up with her own blog! In the meantime, here are some pics of the adorable room that awaits grandson #2.

Roxy seems to like it! We just hope and pray that she will also like Daniel when he gets here and takes up all of Kat's time and attention!

Awaiting Daniel

Kat and Jason were here for a brief time this weekend. Daniel is growing and is taking up more and more room! These pictures were taken yesterday.

Another ultrasound taken Wednesday showed Daniel to be perfect. According to Kat, his little heart rate is wonderful, the placental flow is great, he is a perfect size – about 6 lbs 3 oz now with 23 days left till the due date (which would put him at 7.5 lbs at birth if he comes out on the 30th and gains the avg. 8 oz a week). There is no sign of gestational diabetes and he is already in the proper position for birth. We can't wait to meet him!!!!
