Kat's Baby Girl Shower

I forgot to take pictures once the shower was under way, but we had a fun Olivia theme. Kat's best friend, Angie Mowery came the farthest to be here. Rich catered some of the hors d'oeurves. A friend provided the decorations theme, and Beth (Kat's mother-in-law) helped with invitations, decorations, food, and a shower of gifts.

Some of Olivia's Rules of Life were displayed around the room. Several guests gave Kat their Rules of Life for Raising Girls.


Here are a few of the Rules the guests came up with:


"Always let her play superhero and construction worker while wearing high heels and a tutu!"


"Brush your own hair BEFORE you give the brush to your daughter."

"She may be the "princess," but you are the "Queen."

Kat received a wonderful array of adorable baby girl clothes - so she's pretty well set for when the baby arrives.

Beth created the baby wreath.

Grandma Julia's Birthday

We traveled to Cocoa Beach, Florida, the last week in August to be with Rich's step-mom for her 91st birthday. We spent some lovely hours at the beach and Rich prepared a birthday dinner for Julia and some of her friends. Pixie and Mike joined us, along with their mothers. Rich made a crustini apetizer with fig jam, prosciutto, and blue cheese. Wonderful combination of flavors. Then he created a roast chicken, boiled potatoes, and brocolli for the main course. Pixie brought the birthday cake and homemade mango ice cream. What a feast! Happy Birthday, Julia!

Road Trip...with a 2 Year Old!!

I have been wanting to see my cousin, Judy, since last year when her hubby passed away and I couldn't get to the funeral. Since Kat got to know Judy during Kat's internship and summer at the University of Pittsburgh, she wanted to go along. That meant Daniel, too. We decided to plan some fun activities to keep him interested and occupied. We got some good children's music cd's and some books from the library and headed first to the Pittsburgh Zoo. He was good as gold on the long drive out - knowing that the destination would be a zoo. We met Judy there and spent the afternoon with the animals.

That evening Judy's daughter Lynn made supper for us and Judy and Daniel played on the floor with blocks while Lynn's husband and son, Bradley, watched. I realized later that it had been a year since Bill died - so we were there at the perfect time to cheer her up! Daniel did a great job of that...

On Thursday we headed for Matt and Heather's. On the way I stopped to see my mother's youngest sister, Vaughn. Daniel and Kat played in a set of Step 2 houses while I visited in the nursing home. Then we went to DuBois to meet my cousins Jane and Dick and their daughter Deb for lunch at Hoss's. The parking lot was full of Harleys (mostly ridden by people my age). A fire engine was there and that caught Daniel's eye. The firemen allowed him to get inside to look around and even gave him a short ride.

After lunch we headed to the Mitchells' with a promise of playing with cousins. Daniel had a wonderful time with Isaac, Peter, Drew and Robin. He played with construction toys with Isaac in a pile of dirt most of the afternoon and evening.

Friday morning we headed home. Daniel didn't like that destination quite as much. He wanted to stay and play.
